Countdown Timer
Count down from a duration or to a target time.
05:00
Status: Ready
Countdown Timer counts down from a duration you set or to a specific target date and time, right in your browser. Start, pause, and reset freely, with a large visual display of the remaining time.
How it works
Choose Duration mode and set minutes and seconds, or Target time mode and pick a future date and time. Click Start—the timer computes an absolute end timestamp and updates the display every quarter second so it stays accurate even if the tab loses focus.
Benefits
- Duration or target-time countdown modes in one tool
- Accurate display based on absolute timestamps, not simple ticks
- Pause and resume without losing remaining time
- No account or app install required
Use cases
- Time a short break, workout interval, or presentation slot
- Count down to a meeting, deadline, or event start time
- Run a quick countdown for cooking, study sessions, or games
- Keep a visible timer running during a live demo or stream
Best practices
- Use Target time mode for fixed appointments and Duration mode for intervals
- Pause instead of resetting if you need to briefly stop the clock
- Keep the browser tab open so the countdown keeps updating
- Reset before starting a new countdown to clear the previous state
Common mistakes
- Setting a target time in the past, which the tool will reject
- Assuming the timer sends a sound or push notification at zero
- Forgetting to click Start after changing the duration fields
- Closing the tab expecting the countdown to keep running in the background
Privacy
Countdown Timer runs entirely in your browser's memory using JavaScript timers. ToolHub does not receive, log, or store your timer settings or history.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I count down to a specific time instead of a duration?
- Yes. Switch to Target time mode and pick a date and time in the future. The timer computes how much time remains and counts down to that moment.
- Does the timer keep running if I switch browser tabs?
- Yes. The countdown is based on absolute timestamps, so the displayed time stays accurate even if the tab was inactive—unlike a simple tick counter that can drift.
- Can I pause and resume the countdown?
- Yes. Click Pause to stop the countdown and Start again to resume from the exact remaining time, without losing progress.
- What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
- The display shows 00:00 and the timer stops automatically. Click Reset to set it up again with a new duration or target time.
- Does this tool send notifications when the timer ends?
- No. Countdown Timer shows a visual completion state in the browser tab. Keep the tab visible or check back to see when time is up.
- Is my timer data stored anywhere?
- No. The countdown runs entirely in your browser's memory. ToolHub does not receive, log, or store your timer settings.
