Local Notepad is a simple scratchpad that saves your text directly to this browser's LocalStorage as you type. Jot down quick notes, checklists, or drafts that persist between visits—entirely on your device.

How it works

Type into the textarea and your note is saved automatically to LocalStorage under a dedicated key. Reopen the tool later on the same browser and device to see your note restored. Click Clear to erase it permanently.

Benefits

  • Automatic saving with no manual save button required
  • Note persists across browser sessions on this device
  • Nothing is uploaded—storage stays local to your browser
  • Simple, distraction-free plain-text scratchpad

Use cases

  • Jot down a quick reminder or phone number while browsing
  • Draft a short message before pasting it elsewhere
  • Keep a running checklist or to-do list handy in a browser tab
  • Take temporary meeting notes without opening a separate app

Best practices

  • Copy or download important notes elsewhere for long-term storage
  • Remember notes are tied to this specific browser and device
  • Clear the note before sharing your screen or computer with others
  • Avoid storing sensitive passwords or secrets in plain-text notes

Common mistakes

  • Expecting the note to sync across different browsers or devices
  • Clearing browser site data and being surprised the note disappeared
  • Storing sensitive information in an unencrypted local note
  • Assuming Clear can be undone after confirming it

Privacy

Your note is saved only in this browser's LocalStorage and never transmitted to ToolHub or any server. Because the note already persists locally, on-device history is disabled for this tool to avoid duplicating storage.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my note stored?
Your note is stored only in this browser's LocalStorage under the key toolhub-local-notepad. It never leaves your device and is not sent to ToolHub servers.
Will my note persist after closing the browser?
Yes, as long as you use the same browser and device and do not clear site data. LocalStorage persists across tab closes and restarts until you clear it.
Does the note sync across devices?
No. LocalStorage is per-browser and per-device, so notes do not sync between your phone, laptop, or different browsers. Copy or download the note if you need it elsewhere.
Why is on-device history disabled for this tool?
Local Notepad already persists your text directly to LocalStorage as you type, so a separate history feature would be redundant. Your current note is always the saved version.
What happens if I click Clear?
Clear immediately erases the note from the textarea and removes it from LocalStorage. This action cannot be undone, so copy anything important first.
Is there a note length limit?
Notes are limited to 50,000 characters, which is well beyond most quick notes, drafts, and checklists. Very large notes may also approach browser LocalStorage limits.
